Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American average was 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
